Black Minus Red

Objective

The objective of "Black Minus Red" is to correctly predict the sum of ranks of all black cards minus the sum of ranks of all red cards among the board, yourself, and the bots. You will make markets that the bots can act on (buy or sell). Simply stated: Black cards (Clubs and Spades) are positive, while red cards (Hearts and Diamonds) are negative.

Setup

  1. Deck: A standard 52-card deck is used. Aces are valued as 1. Cards with rank 2 to 10 have value equal to their rank. Jacks, queens, and kings are valued at 11, 12, and 13, respectively.
  2. Players: You (the player) and several bots.
  3. Dealing Cards:
    • Each player, including the bots, receives 2 cards. Each player and bot will only be able to view their cards.
    • Five cards are placed face-down in the center.

Game Phases

The game proceeds through four phases, similar to poker turns: Pre-flop, Flop, Turn, and River.

1. Pre-Flop

  • Player Action: Make your first market on the sum of all black cards minus the sum of all red cards.
  • Bot Action: Bots will buy, sell, or abstain from action based on your market. Their actions are revealed to you immediately.

2. Flop

  • Reveal: The first three center cards are revealed.
  • Player Action: Make your second market.
  • Bot Action: Bots will buy, sell, or abstain from action based on your market. Their actions are revealed to you immediately.

3. Turn

  • Reveal: The fourth center card is revealed.
  • Player Action: Make your third market.
  • Bot Action: Bots will buy, sell, or abstain from action based on your market. Their actions are revealed to you immediately.

4. River

  • Reveal: The fifth and final center card is revealed.
  • Player Action: Make your final market.
  • Bot Action: Bots will buy, sell, or abstain from action based on your market. Their actions are revealed to you immediately.

Endgame

  1. Reveal: All cards (yours, bots', and center) are revealed.
  2. Calculation: You will be asked to calculate the true value of the sum of ranks of all black cards minus the sum of ranks of all red cards.
  3. Guess and PnL: You will be asked to estimate the true value of your Profit and Loss (PnL) based on the markets you created and the bots' actions.
